Reason: I'm moving all the Barker stuff to the BB. If we get some confirmation that it's a fact, I will move them back. I had my doubts originally for some of the same reasons expressed here, but didn't want to get too involved. I will post a message about this separately.

UPN, WB folding!!
Two small, struggling television networks, UPN and WB, will shut down this fall, and their parent companies plan to form a new network called The CW using programming and other assets from each of them.

No word on what happens to the current block of shows on those networks. Pretty amazing story.

One upside I've already heard is a lot of direct-to-syndication programming(the kind that usually has more DiD-potential) is expected to be added in order to fill the primetime gaps that many stations will have after the merger.

The local UPN station has converted to digital, but is still running in SD. The WB station is digital and HD. I suspect the WB station will get the new stuff and the UPN station will bite the big one. The last thing I watched on the UPN station was Enterprise. When it left, I did too.

From a marketing standpoint the local UPN station will have to convert to HD and get some real HD content in order to get viewers. So, the question is: Will the syndicated stuff be HD?

BTW, I'm still waiting for Joanna Garcia on "Reba" go get the treatment! That would be a Yum, Yum Moment!

Look for "Reba," "What I like about you," "Gilmore Girls," "Smallville," to get transfered to the new network.

"What I Like" has been canceled, I think. They had their season episodes trimmed this year, so it likely won't be back. Amanda Bynes' hotness can only go so far. The show was a disaster ratings wise.

"Charmed" was headed for a likely finish this spring anyway, but this should leave no doubt.

Re: UPN, WB folding!!
The "Buffyverse" (BTVS & Angel) virtually carried The WB and then UPN for years. Small wonder they crash afterwards. If this new combined network has any sense, it'll throw whatever money it takes to get Joss Whedon writing a Faith or new Slayer series, with Spike as a co-star, of course.

Magus - John Fowles
Was looking through some books I got at a library sale and came across this picture.

As an aside, does anybody else find that you instinctively find a DID when you're leafing through a book or magazine - even if you're not conciously looking for them. Almost as if they 'grab' your eyes. But I digress...

It's Candice Bergen in 'Magus', a movie that IS in the database, and one which the reviewer - and most contemporary reveiwers - didn't much care for.

What makes it interesting is that the movie was based on a book by John Fowles, who just a few years earlier had written a book called 'The Collector', which is well known to the stalwarts here.

Never having read 'Magus', I don't know if the scene shown here actually appeared in the book or not. If it was, that would make a two-fer for Mr. Fowles, literary-wise. A list of his other writings can be found at:

Unfortunately, I HAVE read the book, and found it a complete waste of time from both the literary and "scene" perspective. In the book, the male lead is wearing a very heavy strap-gag for a great deal of time, including during this scene, while the female lead NEVER does. Sigh. It's to keep him from trying to argue or ask a question (don't ask; it's a messy plot detail), but I still say "sigh".

Brian, I want you to delete this post. My reason for posting, is that I tried to post to a reply on the Bulletin Board although I'm not sure what happened to my reply, as it didn't post. Any ideas ?

Scrubs surpise
Sarah Chalke was duct taped to the side of the hospital in two blink and miss it scences during the last 10 minutes of the 930pm east coast Scrubs on NBC.

Scence came about because she made out with a married man, his wife threated to punch her in the face. Scence then switched to Chalke taped to the wall. She was shown later the same state, in a replay of what lead to a patients death.

From the top of the bulletin board:

"You can't post to this page or reply to messages here."

I guess the fact that there is a reply button that brings up the standard posting screen confuses a lot fo people, like me :-)

Good man,

Scrubs
Don't know if anyone has posted this yet. From http://www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/

Question: Now that Scrubs is finally returning in January, what are the odds that this is its final season? — Brian

Ausiello: Would you believe I asked Bill Lawrence that exact question when I spoke to him last Friday? Here's his answer: "I would bet that it's a little better than a coin flip that the show will be back next year. The actors are all under contract, and I don't know what comedies I see returning on NBC next year, besides Earl and, s---, maybe The Office." BTW, Bill sent me a highlight reel of this season's first seven episodes, and I laughed so hard I practically piddled my new Gap slacks. There's one scene where Elliot, presumably the victim of a practical joker, is duct-taped to the entrance of Sacred Heart under a huge bubble quote that reads, "I'm a whore!" That's frakkin' genius, people.

Page 44 of the Jan2nd Globe Tabloid also has an article on "her being duct taped to the front of the hospital"
You guys in the US may want to keep an eye on that

Should take care of that for Database

As I said earlier in the "move" message, I'm freezing all discussion until we have some sort of confirmation one way or the other.

The fact that "Joe" came here full of lies and distortions didn't make me feel any less skeptical of the whole thing. Even if someone had sent email saying we were ripping on Derek (something I doubt), a quick look at the messages would have told him that it wasn't true. That he posted the messages he did make me think this is an elaborate prank.

It may end up being true, of couse, and we'll deal with it at that time. Until then, I don't want to see any speculation. As noted, you can't post to the BB. Basically if anyone has anything they feel germane to the situation, run it by me first.

Of course 'Top Model', which I still think will produce a scene one day, will make the cut. Veronica Mars is more debatable.

The Shield
Couple of quick scenes in the beginning of The Shield tonight. They occur withing the first ten minutes.

First, two cops find a dead man in the middle of having sex with a woman. They think she was crushed to death by his bulk (gotta love this show's humor), but it turns out she's alive. When they pull the body off, we see she's nude and hash her hands tied behind her.

At about 9 minutes, the cops enter the dead man's truck. Behind a false panel, they find a cage inside are three dead woman lying in a pile, each with hands tied behind and duct tape over the mouth. There are no signs of violence.
All four actresses invloved are young (20s) and not bad looking.
